LOOKING FOR WITNESSES

Belleville ON, - As the investigation continues, investigators are seeking witnesses who may have seen the involved truck driving prior to the collision. The tractor involved is white in colour with red trim. This would have occured prior to 11:25 a.m. on Saturday, July 20th, in the area of Bell Blvd, Sidney Street, or College Street.  Further, if anyone may have captured anything on a dash cam or other device, the investigators would like to hear from you.

UPDATE 22 July 2019:

Following further investigation, the accused, a 40 year-old male of no fixed address has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

Two Counts of Attempted Murder S. 239(1)(b)

Impaired Driving by Drug S. 320.14(1)(a)

Breach of Recognizance S. 811

Two counts of Uttering Threats S. 264.1(1)(a)

The accused name is not being released at this time to protect the identity of the victims. The accused was remanded into custody on the 21st of July with a Bail Hearing set for today at 1:00 p.m. at the Quinte Consolidated Court House.

Some residents of the building have been able to return to their apartments while others remain evacuated as damage to the building is further assessed by engineers.

Transport Truck Crashes into Van and Apartment Building

On Saturday, July 20, 2019 at approximately 11:25 a.m., Belleville Police, Belleville Fire, and Hastings EMS responded to a call of a transport truck crashing into an apartment building on a street in the north west part of Belleville. 

As a result, the residents of the apartment building were evacuated and assistance was provided to them through Red Cross and city staff.

Members of the Criminal Investigation Division, Traffic Safety Unit, and Forensic Identification Unit attended the scene and the investigation is continuing. 

One female was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A 40 year-old male of no fixed address and the driver of the transport truck, was arrested on scene for Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Assault with a Weapon and is being held for a show cause hearing.
