Update – September 13, 2023

Arrest of Second Suspect in Downtown Shooting

On the 12th of September 2023 at 5:00 pm, with the assistance of the public, members of Project Renewal and the Belleville Police Service’s Emergency Response Unit, located and arrested Nicholas Baumhour while he was in Quinte West. 

Nicholas Baumhour, 20-years-old of Belleville is charged with:

  • Attempt to Commit Murder using a Restricted Firearm
  • Discharge Firearm with Intent
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

Baumhour was transported to the Belleville Police Service following his arrest and was held for a bail hearing.

Seeking assistance following gunfire in downtown

Belleville Police are seeking the assistance of the public following an incident that led to gunfire in the downtown core, early Saturday.

Officers responded to an area along the west side of Front Street shortly before 1 a.m. after receiving numerous 911 calls reporting the sound of gunfire.

There were no reported injuries and there is no ongoing risk to public safety.

A number of specialty units - the Criminal Investigations Division, Forensic Unit and Emergency Response Unit - were subsequently called in to assist with the investigation.

Update - August 22, 2023

Arrest in Downtown shooting and seeking public assistance in locating 2nd suspect

The Belleville Police Service’s Criminal Investigation Division has made an arrest in relation to the shooting that occurred on Front Street on the 12th of August 2023.  With the assistance of Project Renewal and the Kingston Police, twenty-four-year-old Brandon Alexander of Northbrook was arrested on the 15th of August in the City of Kingston.  Alexander was held for bail and charged with:

 

  • Careless use of a Firearm
  • Attempt to Commit Murder using a Restricted Firearm
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Disguise with Intent
  • Discharge Firearm with Intent
  • Failure to comply with Undertaking (X 3)
  • Possession of a Firearm contrary to Prohibition Order

 

The Belleville Police Service continue to seek the public’s assistance in locating 20-year-old Nicholas Baumhour.  Baumhour is wanted for Attempt to Commit Murder in connection with the shooting.  Baumhour is approximately 6’2” and 200lbs.  He is known to be in the Quinte and Kingston area.
