Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 116 calls for service over a 24-hour period beginning at 5:00 am on February 25, 2026 to 5:00 am on February 26, 2026. Assault On February 17th, Belleville Police attended the downtown area regarding an assault. It was reported a male had physically assaulted another individual and fled the scene. Upon investigation, officers were able to identify a suspect. As a result, on February 25th at 5:59pm, Belleville Police located, arrested, and charged a 24-year-old Belleville man of no fixed address with: Assault Uttering threats Failure to comply with a probation order Outstanding warrant executed He was held for a bail hearing.   Back to Briefs

Arrest Made for Failing to Comply with Release Order On February 24th, 2026, members of the Belleville Police Service Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit arrested a 47-year-old Courtice, Ontario male, Jeffery Merrick, on two counts of Failing to Comply with a Release Order. Warrants On February 23rd at 3:09pm, Belleville Police conducted a traffic stop in the city’s north end. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers observed a male in the passenger seat who was known to have outstanding Belleville Police Service arrest warrants for criminal harassment and failure to comply with a probation order X5. Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 261 calls for service beginning at 5:00 am on February 20, 2026 to 5:00 am on February 23, 2026. Impaired Driver On February 23rd at 12:04am, Belleville Police responded to a report of a single vehicle collision in the city’s west end. Upon arrival, officers observed the suspect vehicle in a ditch, as well as a male walking away from the vehicle. Upon speaking with the male, officers observed signs of impairment. As a result of investigation, James Patterson, 36-year-old Frankford man, was arrested and charged with Operation while impaired – alcohol and Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80mg. He was released on an Undertaking with a scheduled court date in April. UPDATE: Pedestrian Struck by Train — Rail Crossings Temporarily Blocked The pedestrian was pronounced deceased. Any further inquiries should be directed to the Office of the Chief Coroner. Pedestrian Struck by Train — Rail Crossings Temporarily Blocked At approximately 7:50 a.m. on February 23, Belleville Police Service responded to an incident involving a pedestrian who was struck by a train.  Officers remain on scene and the investigation is ongoing. As a result of the incident, the train is currently blocking several railway crossings, affecting the area from Haig Road to South Front Street. The Belleville Police Service is asking the public to avoid the affected crossings and use alternate routes until the scene has been cleared. No further details will be released at this time. Break and Enter On February 19th at 9:58am, Belleville Police responded to a report of a break and enter at a business in the city’s downtown area. It was reported that an employee had arrived at work in the morning and observed an unknown male leaving the premises. Upon investigation, it was observed that the door was damaged from being broken into Officers reviewed surveillance footage and were able to identify a suspect. It was also discovered that the suspect had conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
