Children’s Safety Village of Belleville

For over 20 years, the Children’s Safety Village of Belleville, a registered charity, has been providing children across Hastings and Prince Edward Counties to learn how to stay safe through hands-on, real-world experiences. Operating under the principle “involve me and I will understand,” the Village emphasizes experiential learning to help children truly grasp safety concepts.
Through our free programs, individuals build important life-saving skills in areas such as pedestrian safety, emergency preparedness, fire safety, home safety, water safety, impaired and distracted driving awareness, and fraud prevention. These programs help participants gain the confidence, awareness, and practical decision-making skills needed to respond safely in everyday situations and emergencies.
Each year, we welcome thousands of local students, families, and individuals from infants to seniors, helping them develop safety habits they can carry with them for life. Our programs are facilitated through booked field trips and/or group visits of 10 or more, making them accessible to a wide range of community groups, including schools, homeschool groups, life skills classes, Girl Guides, youth organizations, seniors’ groups, and other community partners.
We are very proud to partner with community partners and first responders such as the Belleville Police Service. Through BPS we can deliver several of our programs, including our school-age Street Safety program, the Driving Under the Influence program for youth, and a Digital and Financial Safety program for adults 50+. Working together brings real-world experience and expertise into every session and helps make these conversations more meaningful and relevant.
We’re excited to be expanding! This year, we’ve extended our hours, added new programs designed to expand our demographic, and we now host birthday parties!
Our popular drop-in program has expanded, and families can now visit twice a week on Mondays from 4:00-7:00 PM and Wednesdays from 11:00 AM-3:00 PM (rain or shine).
Drop-ins are a great way to enjoy a safe, welcoming outdoor space where children can safely ride bikes, scooters or rollerblades, and still have plenty of room to run, walk, and explore. Please remember to bring your helmets! The Village is fully fenced, free to access, and free parking.
Several buildings are open for imaginative play, and the Village includes working traffic lights, a railway crossing, paved and painted roads, and street signs for real-life practice. Washrooms and the classroom are also open during these hours, making it an easy, inclusive outing for families.
Looking for a unique birthday idea? We offer two party spots every Saturday morning. Children can explore the Village, including the fire station, police station, ambulance, gas station, railway and more. Then gather in the classroom for presents, cake, and snacks. Just bring your own bikes, scooters, rollerblades, or ride-ons (and don’t forget helmets!).
We host annual, family-focused events in the Village that have become a staple in our community, including Easter, Halloween, and Christmas celebrations. These events provide meaningful opportunities for families to connect, learn, and create lasting memories together, while also helping raise funds that support our programs.
You’ll also find us out in the community throughout the year. Visit our website to see where we’ll be next!
While we are still operational until June 2028 at 129 South John Street, we’re excited to share that the Children’s Safety Village will be relocating to a new home at Hillcrest Park. This move will create a more accessible, inclusive, and multi-generational hub for the City of Belleville, allowing us to expand our programs and continue building a legacy of safety education for future generations.
