On August 25, 2026, at 4:15 p.m., Belleville Police responded to an apartment building in the city’s west end regarding an assault.

It was reported that a male assaulted another resident by striking him in the leg with a hammer and spitting on him. During the incident, the male also smashed a window within the building. Following the incident, the suspect returned to his apartment unit.

At 5:52 p.m., Belleville Police successfully negotiated with the suspect to exit his apartment unit, and officers took him into custody without further incident.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result of the investigation, a 33-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged with:

• Assault with a weapon
• Assault
• Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
• Mischief under $5000

He was held for a bail hearing.
