On August 26, while on general patrol in the city’s east end, Belleville Police received a report of an assault that had occurred earlier that day.

It was reported that a male had taken a female’s purse and walked away. When the female attempted to retrieve her property, the male punched her in the face before fleeing the area.

Police investigated the incident; however, they did not locate the suspect at that time.

On August 27, 2026, Belleville Police returned to the area and located the male suspect.

As a result of the investigation, a 41-year-old Belleville man of no fixed address was arrested and charged with:

• Assault – spousal
• Fail to comply with probation order X2

He was held for a bail hearing.
