Candidates participate in a long and thorough recruiting process in order to become a police constable.

Once  hired by the Belleville Police Service,  new recruits receive one week of in-house training before heading off for three months of training at the Ontario Police College.  After graduating from OPC new constables  participate in a further two week in- service training led by our Training Officer Cst. Pat Comeau.

Training includes learning techniques and skills necessary for front line policing.  New constables complete scenarios and practical and written tests to learn proper procedures  e.g. proper taser control and how to handle an interaction with a hostile person.

Ongoing training is important for all constables as high-stress situations are a part of the job. Training and practice builds confidence and allows constables to evaluate situations to ensure that their response will be at the level needed to make the city of Belleville a safer community.
