Domestic Assault
Belleville, ON – On the 12th of September at 3:00 am police responded to a call for service in relation to a domestic in the city’s west end. Police investigation led to the arrest of a 31-year-old Belleville male who was held in custody after appearing before a Justice of the Peace via video remand. He was remanded to the 14th of September to appear at a show cause hearing in Belleville on one count of assault. His name is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
Canada Wide Warrant and Assault
Belleville, ON– On the 12th of September at 6:30 am police received a call for service at a west end apartment building with regards to a female who was assaulted in one of the buildings hallways. Upon arrival police found a 25-year-old male being held by the female’s boyfriend. A check on the male revealed that he was wanted on a Canada wide warrant by Corrections Canada in relation to being at large while on his way to an integration home in Kingston. Thusanth Ariyanayagam, 25, was arrested and taken to The Belleville Police Service where Corrections Canada was contacted. Ariyanayagam was taken back into custody by Corrections Canada after being issued an undertaking for one charge of assault by Belleville Police. He is to appear at The Quinte Consolidated Court House in Belleville on the 15th of October to answer to the recent charge of assault.
Domestic Assault (Updated from media release 12 Sept 2020 )
Belleville, ON, On 11 Sept 2020 10:03 a.m. police were dispatched to a domestic in a vehicle on Point Ann Rd . By the time officers arrived the female was out of the vehicle and the vehicle had left the scene. Responding officers observed the vehicle and stopped it. The 20-year-old Belleville male was arrested for domestic assault. The vehicle was searched and a prohibited knife was located. As a result, the male was charged with one count of assault, one count of uttering threats, one count of weapons dangerous, and three charges under the Highway Traffic Act. There were no injuries reported. The male was held for a video remand on 12 Sept 20. The result of the video remand was that the male was held in custody for a bail hearing on 14 Sept 2020.
