The Belleville Police Service responded to 59 calls for service from October 19th, 2020 at 5:00 a.m. to October 20th, 2020 at 5:00 a.m.

Break, Enter & Theft

Belleville, ON – October 19th, 2020 – 6:30 a.m.

Belleville Police responded to a break & enter in progress at the old Hillcrest Public School on West Street.  The de-commissioned school is fenced off and is being dismantled by a private construction firm.  The complainant called police advising that two suspects were stealing copper wire from inside the building.  The caller also took the keys out of the Uhaul truck that the suspects were using prior to police arrival as the suspects fled the area.  Police were able to locate both suspects shortly after their arrival after receiving a description and took them into custody. 

Rebecca Bagnell and Shane Dubeau of Belleville were both charged with the following criminal offences;

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Theft Over $5000
  • Break and Enter
  • Resisting Arrest

Both accused were released on their own recognizance will attend the Belleville Ontario Court of justice on December 3rd, 2020 to answer to the charges. 

Stolen Business Van

Belleville, ON – October 19th, 2020 – 8:30  a.m.

Belleville Police received a report of a stolen commercial business van from a property on Station Street.  The complainant advised police that there was approximately $20k dollars worth of equipment in the back of the vehicle.  Police located the stolen van later in the day on Tripp Avenue.  It is unknown at this time if any equipment is missing.  Police are continuing the investigation and are asking for the public’s assistance.  If anyone knows anything about this crime, they are asked to contact Constable Hadley of the Belleville Police Service at 613-966-0882 ext 4153 or Quinte Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 if they wish to remain anonymous.  

Motor Vehicle Collision

Belleville, ON – October 19th, 2020 – 2:15 p.m.

Belleville Police responded to a two-vehicle collision on Dundas St. E. near Herchimer Ave.  One driver received a minor head injury and was having difficulty breathing.  City EMS attended the scene and treated the victim.

A 48-year-old Belleville man was charged with an unsafe turn under the Ontario Highway traffic Act. 

Vehicle Pursuit

Belleville, ON – October 19th, 2020 – 3:10 p.m.

A city police officer conducted a traffic stop on Station Street regarding a suspended driver operating the vehicle.  When the officer exited his patrol vehicle the suspect driver sped off.  Police pursued the vehicle north to Hwy 401 where the suspect headed eastbound towards Shannonville.  Police discontinued the pursuit due to public safety. 

The investigation is continuing. 

Front Porch Attempt Theft

Belleville, ON – October 19th, 2020 – 4:00 p.m.

Belleville Police were notified by a resident on Herchimer Avenue that a male stole a package from the residence front porch.  The complainant exited the residence and yelled at the suspect who dropped the package and took off.  The complainant advised police that the suspect dropped his wallet during his hasty retreat. 

Officers believe they have identified the suspect and are attempting to locate him.  Charges are pending. 

Vehicle Rollover

Belleville, ON – October 19th, 2020 – 6:00 p.m.

Police dispatched received a call about a vehicle on its roof on Casey Road in Thurlow Township.  When officers arrived on scene they found a car that had rolled onto its roof and came to a stop in the ditch.  Eye witness report that the vehicle appeared to lose control on the wet road just prior to it upending.  Police advise that speed nor alcohol was a factor in the incident. 

A 20-year-old Shannonville man was taken to Belleville General Hospital with minor injuries.  No charges were laid. 

Suspicious Person

Belleville, ON – October 19th, 2020 – 11:30 p.m.

Belleville Police received a report of a suspicious person checking vehicles in residential driveways on Finch Drive.  Officers searched the area but did not locate any suspects.  Residents are asked to contact the Belleville Police if they find or believe anyone has entered their vehicle over the night time. 

The Belleville Police would also like to remind residents that if they leave their vehicles in their driveways over night, to be sure to remove any valuables and to lock their doors. 

Public Disturbance

Belleville, ON – October 20th, 2020 – 12:00 a.m.

Police received a report of a damaged window to a downtown business on Front Street.  There was also a report of fireworks being let off in the same area with suspects fleeing the scene.  When officers arrived, they found an adult female who was extremely intoxicated causing problems at the occurrence location and was uncooperative and combative with police. 

A 46-year-old Belleville woman was arrested and charged for Public Intoxication.  She was transported to the Belleville Police Service where she spent the rest of the evening until she was sober.  The accused was later released with a provincial offence charge. 

Police are continuing the investigation in regards to the damaged business window.
