The Belleville Police Service responded to 65 calls for service from November 21st, 2020 at 5:00 a.m. to November 22nd, 2020 at 5:00 a.m.

Overnight Police Pursuit Vehicle Recovered

Belleville, ON – November 21st, 2020 – 6:00 a.m.

At 12:30 a.m. on the 21st of November 2020, police were involved in a vehicle pursuit that began south on Sidney St and was last seen heading eastbound on Bridge St W at a very high rate of speed.  Officers chose to discontinue the pursuit in the interest of public safety. 

Approximately 6 hours later, the vehicle was located in a residential driveway on Frank St and was not associated with that residence.  City police found that the vehicle was stolen out of Kingston.  Police seized the vehicle for forensic examination.  The investigation is continuing. 

Violent Domestic Assault

Belleville, ON – November 21st, 2020 – 4:45 p.m.

City police dispatch received a call about a female being struck by a male at a residence in the Purdy St area.  When officers arrived on scene they found the female victim in and out of consciousness on the floor.  The male suspect fled just prior to police arrival.  Officers set up containment in the area and a police K9 track commenced in search of the accused.  Officers were on scene in the area for just over an hour when they lost the track in the area of Catherine St and Dunbar St. 

Fortunately, police were able to positively identify the male suspect in this case and a warrant the accused arrest is being sought.  The investigation is continuing and charges are pending. 

The extent of the victim’s injuries is not known at this time.  The accused name is not being released at this time to protect the integrity and identification of the victim in this matter. 

Drug Overdose / Disturbance

Belleville, ON – November 21st, 2020 – 5:30 p.m.

Belleville Police attended a residence in the Catherine St area at the request of City EMS in regards to a female victim of a crack cocaine drug overdose.  Just prior to police arrival, EMS personal administered naloxone to the unresponsive victim which revived her.  The female victim became very assaultive towards the EMS crew and with the police as well. 

The 35-year-old Belleville woman was apprehended by police for her own safety.  She was secured at the Belleville Police Service after she was medically cleared where she was later released in the morning when she had time to calm down.  No charge was laid. 

Domestic Assault / Threats / Mischief

Belleville, ON – November 21st, 2020 – 6:00 p.m.

City police were dispatched to a restaurant on North Front St regarding a domestic assault.  When police arrived on scene they were advised that the suspect had left prior to their arrival.  The victim left prior to police arrival as well, separately from the suspect.  Officers were able to locate the victim a short distance away. 

Approximately an hour after the initial call, officers located the suspect male hiding in the rear yard of a residential property in the Lingham St area.  Police arrested and charged the male suspect for the following criminal domestic charges;

  • Assault
  • Uttering Death Threats – two counts
  • Mischief Under $5000

The 20-year-old accused from Belleville was held in custody at the Belleville Police Service and is scheduled to appear before a Provincial Court Justice on November 23rd, 2020 for a show cause hearing to answer to his charges.  

The name of the accused is not being released to protect the identity of the victim in this matter.
