The Belleville Police Service responded to 67 calls for service from the 13th of May 2020 at 5:00 a.m. to the 14th of May 2020 at 5:00 a.m.
Boating Accident
Belleville, ON – On May 13th, 2020 at approximately 4:30 p.m., city police were notified of a capsized sail boat in the Bay of Quinte a couple of kilometers West of the Bay Bridge. Emergency services were on scene quickly, however, the current moved the vessel into the Quinte West jurisdiction fairly quickly. Both Belleville City Police and the Quinte West OPP along with the Fire Department were able to coordinate efforts to retrieve the vessel.
The lone male sailor was able to swim to shore without injury but was treated on the banks for hypothermia. Alcohol or drugs were not a factor in this incident.
Warrants
Belleville, ON – On May 13th, 2020 at approximately 7:30 p.m., city police were patrolling in the South West end of the city when they spotted a female and male known to them to have outstanding warrants. Officers were able to arrest both parties without incident.
The 42-year-old male from Belleville was held in custody and will appear before a Justice today at the Belleville Ontario Court of Justice for a Show Cause Hearing.
The 36-year-old female also from Belleville, Wendy Budgell, was released on her own recognizance and will appear at the Belleville Ontario Court of Justice to answer to her outstanding charges of Breach of Probation and two counts of failing to Comply with Court Orders on July 23rd, 2020.
Mischief Under $5000
Belleville, ON – On May 13th, 2020 at approximately 10:00 p.m., city police were dispatched to a South West residential area in regards to male banging on a residence door whom the home owners did not know. The suspect smashed out a window on the front door but abruptly took off from the scene. City police units were able to make it into the area in good time and conducted a search for the male suspect after a description was given to them by the home owner via police dispatch. Within minutes, police located the suspect a short distance away from the victim’s home and took him into custody without incident.
Belleville resident, 32-year-old, Paul Nixson was charged with one count of Mischief Under $5000. The accused was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to attend the Belleville Ontario Court of Justice to answer to the charge on July 23rd, 2020.
Disturbance, Public Intoxication
Belleville, ON – On May 14th, 2020 at approximately 2:15 a.m., city police responded to a disturbance at a South East city apartment complex. Upon arrival, officers found a 30-year-old woman extremely intoxicated causing a disturbance in the hallway of the complex. The female suspect became physically aggressive with the officers. She was subsequently arrested under the Liquor Licence Act and brought to the police station to sober up in the cells. She was later released and charged with Public Intoxication.
