2-Year-Old Found in Middle of the Street
Belleville, ON – On June 14th, 2020 at approximately 10:00 a.m., city police were advised of a 2-year-old standing in the middle of Moira St. W. near Elgin St. A police investigation revealed that a 2-year-old boy had climbed out of a basement window at his home without his mother being aware and wound up in the middle of Moira St. W. A city bus driver was driving on Moira St. W. and came upon the child in the middle of the road. The bus driver stopped the bus and citizens on the bus went out and picked up the child and brought him onto the bus while the driver called the police. The child was not injured and in good health.
Police located the mother and returned the child to his home after determining that it was an oversight on the mother’s part and there was no willful negligence. No charges were laid but the mother was cautioned by the police.
Car Accident – Fail to Remain
Belleville, ON – On June 14th, 2020 at approximately 11:30 a.m., city police were dispatched to a south west restaurant regarding a motor vehicle collision that occurred in the drive through window lane. Police report that a vehicle for an unknown reason reversed in the drive through window lane and struck the vehicle that was behind. The suspect vehicle then proceeded to leave the scene of the collision. Police attended and collected some evidence and statement’s and believe they have identified the suspect driver. City police will be attempting to make contact with the suspect. Possible charges pending.
Suspended Driver’s
Belleville, ON – On June 14th, 2020 at 11:45 a.m., a city police officer was patrolling in the Southeast residential area of the city when he spotted a driver commit and traffic violation for failing to yield. The officer conducted a traffic stop. The investigation revealed that the driver of the stopped vehicle was a suspended driver within the province of Ontario.
A 31-year-old Belleville man was charged with one count of Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Under Suspension and one count of Failing to Yield to Traffic on Through Highway contrary to the Ontario Highway Traffic Act. The accused is scheduled for court on July 6th, 2020 to answer to the charges.
Belleville, ON – On June 14th, 2020 at approximately 6:00 p.m., a city officer conducted a traffic stop on Foster Ave. at Pine St. The investigation revealed that the driver was a suspended driver in the province of Ontario. The 43-year-old male driver was charged with the following offences under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act and the Ontario Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act;
- Operation of a Motor Vehicle While under Suspension
- Permit Unlicensed Person to Drive Motor Vehicle
- Owner Permit Operation of Motor Vehicle on a Highway with No Insurance
The suspect vehicle was removed from the scene by tow recovery. The accused is scheduled to attend Provincial Traffic Court on July 6th, 2020 to answer to his charge.
Assault
Belleville, ON – On June 14th, 2020 at approximately 8:00 p.m., city police were dispatched to a Southwest restaurant establishment in regards to a disturbance. Upon police arrival, involved parties were just breaking up from a physical altercation. All parties were intoxicated. After collecting some information, police arrested a Toronto resident, 37-year-old Brent Gerard for one count of Assault. A male victim sustained minor injuries but did not require medical attention.
Mr. Gerard was later released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to attend the Belleville Ontario Court of Justice on July 23rd, 2020 to answer to his charge.
Driving Offences & Breach of Court Orders
Belleville, ON – On June 15th, 2020 at approximately 2:00 a.m., a city police conducted a traffic stop on Bridge St. W. Police recognized the driver whom they knew was a prohibited driver in Canada for criminal purposes. Thirty-nine-year-old, Travis Toddhunter of Picton was arrested and charged with the following charges;
- Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Prohibited Drive
- Fail to Comply with a Court Release Order
- Breach of Probation (2 counts)
- Driving Under Suspension
- Driving While Having Liquor Readily Available
The accused vehicle was seized by police for forty-five days under the provincial standard. Mr. Toddhunter is scheduled to appear at the Belleville Ontario Court of Justice on July 6th, 2020 to answer to his charges.
