Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 190 calls for service over a 72-hour period beginning at 5:00 am on the 8th of April, 2022 to 5:00 am on the 11th of April, 2022.

Domestic Assault

On April 8th, 2022 at 11:48 pm Belleville Police received a call to an east-end residence regarding an assault. A female caller advised that she was assaulted and was currently locked in the bathroom. Police arrived on scene and spoke to the female who advised that her spouse had been drinking all afternoon and physically assaulted her.  The victim did not require medical attention for her injuries.  A fifty-year-old male Belleville, Ontario resident was located in the home and arrested for Domestic assault.  The male was brought to Belleville Police Service where he was held until sober and released with a court date on May 9th, 2022 in Belleville. The name of the male is not being released to protect the identity of the victim.

Fail to Remain Motor Vehicle Collision

On April 8th, 2022 Belleville Police responded to the intersection of North Front Street at Evan Street Belleville, Ontario regarding a fail to remain accident.  Information was received that a white Chevy pick-up truck had struck a small red passenger vehicle causing significant damage to the passenger vehicle.  The driver of the pick-up truck was described as a male wearing an orange construction vest and was last seen heading north on North Front Street Belleville, Ontario.  The driver of the other vehicle did not require medical assistance.  Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Matt Code #227 at 613-966-0882 X4227 or mcode@bellevilleps.ca

Impaired Driving

On April 8th, 2022 at 11:48 pm officers received a call to the area of Cannifton Road and Adam Street Belleville, Ontario regarding a suspicious vehicle.  Police received further information that a black Ford escape was pulled over on the side of the road and the male driver appeared to be intoxicated.  Officers attended in the area and located the vehicle and driver. As a result of investigation twenty-eight-year-old Tweed, Ontario resident Joseph Sowa was administered a road side test which resulted in a fail. Sowa was arrested for over 80 milligrams of alcohol and transported to Belleville Police Service.  He was held until sober and then released with a court date on May 5, 2022 in Belleville.

Breach of Probation

On the 10th of April, 2022 at 7:30 pm Belleville Police were on patrol in the downtown Belleville, Ontario core. A male who was known to police was observed walking on Front Street between Victoria Avenue and Bridge Street Belleville, Ontario. A records check indicated that the male was on probation to not be in that specific area. As a result, a seventy-seven-year-old Belleville, Ontario resident was arrested and charged with breach of probation and held for a bail hearing on the 11th of April, 2022.
