Road closed – Structure fire

Harmony Road is expected to be closed until after 9 a.m. due to a structure fire that occurred earlier this morning.

Belleville police were dispatched to a residence between Highway 37 and Plumpton Road for a fire around 3:30 a.m. Monday.

The stretch of roadway has been closed to traffic since and the public are advised to be aware of Belleville fire department tanker truck traffic in the area.

An investigation into the cause of the fire will be conducted by the Fire Prevention Office of the Belleville Police Service.

Assaulted an 11-year-old, charged with assault

A 31-year-old Belleville woman was charged with assault after an incident in her east end yard involving children, Sunday.

Officers were called to the area of Pine Street and Humewood Avenue shortly after 7 p.m. following a disturbance on the front lawn of a residence involving several children and adults.

Several adults at the scene had to be separated prior to officers arriving.

An investigation revealed the woman had thrown an 11-year-old boy to the ground after an incident on her yard involving other children.

Charged with assault is Joelle Hubbs, 31, of Belleville. Hubbs was released on an undertaking with a May 23, 2024 court date.

Multiple charges in crash, held for bail

A 27-year-old man of no fixed address is facing a number of charges following a two-vehicle collision at the roundabout in the city’s north end, Saturday.

Officers were dispatched to the scene of a motor vehicle collision at Maitland and Farnham roads around 3:30 p.m. and were advised the male driver had fled the scene on foot.

The male was located in a wooded area a short distance away and arrested.

Further investigation into the incident led to additional criminal and Highway Traffic Act charges against the man, who appeared for a weekend bail hearing.

Austin Allan James Lloyd, 27, was charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop after a collision, refusing to obey a breath demand, operation of a conveyance while impaired, assault a peace officer, mischief, possession of a controlled substance, driving a motor vehicle without a licence and failing to yield.

Couple arguing, both arrested

A call to a disturbance in the city’s east end early Friday led to the arrest of two people wanted on warrants.

Officers were dispatched to a call of a couple arguing loudly in the area of Bridge and John streets around 6:45 a.m. and following an investigation arrested the two individuals involved.

A 33-year-old female was arrested for failing to appear in court, failing to comply with probation and robbery. She was further charged with breaching probation and an undertaking.

A 35-year-old male, meanwhile, was arrested on a warrant for robbery. He was also charged with a further five counts involving firearms prohibitions, three counts of weapons dangerous and unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon.

Both were held for bail. Given the domestic nature of the initial call, the names of those facing charges will not be released.
