Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 200 calls for service over a 72-hour period beginning at 5:00 am on the 10th of June, 2022 to 5:00 am on the 13th of June, 2022.

Warrants

On the 10th of June, 2022, at 1:00 PM, Belleville Police were on patrol in the city’s west end when they observed a male known to be wanted on warrants for thefts. After a brief foot pursuit and the help of BPS K9, thirty-nine-year-old Ronald McCloskey of Belleville, Ontario, was arrested and held for a show cause hearing on the 11th of June.

Recovered Stolen vehicle

On the 10th of June, 2022, at 1:10 pm, Belleville Police, while involved in a separate investigation, observed a vehicle known to be recently stolen. Belleville Police successfully stopped the vehicle and arrested a lone male occupant.  As a result, twenty-seven-year-old Cecil Merkley of Belleville, Ontario was arrested and charged with Theft of a Motor vehicle, Possession of property obtained by crime, two counts each of Fail to Comply with a release order and Fail to Comply with a probation order. Merkley was held for bail on the 11th of June, 2022.

Theft

On June 11th, 2022, at 9:51 am, Belleville Police received a call regarding a shoplifter taking a quantity of food without paying from a north-end business. Officers attended in the area. However, the male took off on foot into the wooded area behind the store.  Officers checked the area thoroughly however were not able to locate the male.  The male was described as wearing a long white/black dirt bike shirt, jean shorts, black running shoes and a red hat.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Constable Frazer at 613-966-0882 X 4221 or by email at bfrazer@bellevilleps.ca 

Impaired

On the 12th of June 2022, at 745 pm, a concerned driver reported a vehicle they were following on Dundas Street in Belleville, Ontario, was driving erratically.  The involved vehicle was located by Belleville Police travelling along Highway # 2 and was stopped.  The driver was found to be exhibiting signs of alcohol consumption and was arrested.  The driver provided samples which were over twice the legal limit of alcohol in their body.  As a result, thirty-seven-year-old Nathaniel Thomas of Belleville, Ontario, was charged with impaired driving and operating a motor vehicle with 80 plus mgs of alcohol in his body.  Thomas was later released with a July 14th, 2022, court date.     

Assault

On the 12th of June 2022 at 9:20 pm, Belleville Police responded to a west end residence regarding a disturbance.  Officers arrived on the scene and learned that a male had shown up unwanted at the residence and, while inside, stuck an occupant causing minor injuries.  As a result of the investigation, twenty-one-year-old Aleczander Boyd of Belleville, Ontario, was charged with assault and was later released with a July 14th, 2022, court date.
