Assault
On May 24th at approximately 5:00 p.m., Belleville Police responded to the city’s east end for a report of an assault.
Upon investigation, officers learned that a male had assaulted a 12-year-old female who was known to him by grabbing her shoulder, choking her, and uttering threats.
As a result of police investigation, a 39-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged with:
- Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm
- Assault
- Assault causing bodily harm – choke
He was held for a bail hearing.
Break and Enter
On May 24th at 7:51 a.m., Belleville Police responded to a report of a break and enter in the downtown area. It was reported that the business owner discovered signs of unauthorized entry into the business and observed that the cash register had been accessed. Officers reviewed surveillance footage, which showed a suspect entering the premises and accessing the register.
At 9:28 a.m., officers located the male suspect on Dundas Street East.
As a result of police investigation, James Patrick, 46-year-old Belleville man of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with:
- Break and enter
- Fail to comply with a probation order
He was released on an Undertaking with a scheduled court date in July.
Multiple Charges Including Assault of a Peace Officer
On May 22nd at 7:25 p.m., Belleville Police responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver in the city’s north end.
A complainant reported observing a male arrive in a parking lot appearing intoxicated. The complainant took the vehicle keys, and the male left on foot.
Through investigation, officers identified the male and confirmed he was a prohibited driver. Officers attended his residence, where the male and a female were present. When officers attempted to arrest the male, he refused to comply and retreated inside.
A verbal dispute was then heard, and officers observed the male with his arm around the female’s neck. Officers intervened, at which point the male released the female and charged at an officer. The male was taken into custody.
As a result of investigation, a 42-year-old Belleville man, was arrested and charged with:
- Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
- Dangerous operation
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand
- Take motor vehicle without consent
- Assault – Spousal
- Resist peace officer
- Assault a peace officer
He was held for a bail hearing.
Assault
On May 22nd at 6:05 p.m., Belleville Police responded to a report of a disturbance on Front Street.
It was reported that a male struck another male in the face and continued to assault him while he was on the ground. Officers located the suspect a short distance away.
As a result of police investigation, Erik Benford, 52-year-old Belleville male, was arrested and charged with assault.
He was released on an Undertaking with a scheduled court date in July.
Warrants
On May 22nd at 9:45 a.m., Belleville Police received information that a male who was known to have multiple outstanding Belleville Police Service arrest warrants was walking in the city’s west end.
Officers attended the area and located the male, who fled upon seeing police. He was observed riding a bicycle into the river to escape but was taken into custody shortly after.
As a result, Evan Novak, 34-year-old Belleville man of no fixed address, was arrested o the strength of the outstanding warrants. He was held for a bail hearing.
