Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 178 calls for service between 5:00 am on February 7, 2025 to 5:00 am on February 10, 2025.
The Belleville Police Service responded to two collisions Friday night within an hour of each other which both resulted in impaired driving charges.
Single motor vehicle collision leads to impaired driving charge
On the 8th of February at approximately midnight, Belleville Police responded to a single motor vehicle collision in the city’s east-end. Information was learned that a vehicle had left the highway and sheared off a hydro pole. Officers attended the scene and through investigation identified the lone occupant. The 17-year-old male driver from Belleville was believed to be impaired by alcohol. He was subsequently arrested for impaired driving. He was transported to the Belleville Police Service for further testing, and as a result was charged with impaired driving and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus after providing samples registering nearly triple the legal limit. The driver’s name is not being released due to the fact that he is a Young Person as defined in the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He was released on an Undertaking with a court date in March.
Minor motor vehicle collision leads to impaired driving charges
On the 8th of February at 1:00am, Belleville Police received a call regarding a disturbance in the city’s west-end. Officers attended the area and through investigation determined that a minor motor vehicle collision had occurred. Officers believed that one of the drivers was impaired by alcohol. As a result, 35-year-old Dinesh Kumar of Napanee was arrested for impaired driving. He was transported to the Belleville Police Service for further testing. Following the investigation, he was charged with impaired driving and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus. He was released from custody on an Undertaking with a court date in March.
Domestic Charges laid, K-9 Unit assisted in arrest
In the early morning hours of Saturday the 8th of February, police were called to a residence on the West side of Belleville for a report of a Domestic Assault. The suspect had fled upon police arrival running through backyards. Belleville K-9 Unit was called in to assist with the search. After a lengthy search, the suspect was located hiding in a backyard and taken into custody without further incident. The victim was treated on scene by paramedics and suffered minor injuries. The accused was held for a bail hearing. The accused’s name is being withheld to protect the victim’s identity.
R.I.D.E. Checks Sunday evening
On Sunday the 9th of February, Officers from the Traffic Safety Unit and Front-Line Patrol Officers conducted RIDE checks at various locations throughout the city between 5:00 pm and 11:00pm. Approximately 860 vehicles were stopped during the checks. Two drivers were required to conduct roadside screening device checks, no charges were laid. One ticket was issued for a seatbelt violation.
