Commercial Vehicle Rollover Under Investigation

On June 15, at 5:50 p.m., members of the Belleville Police Service, Belleville Fire, and Hastings-Quinte Paramedic Services responded to a commercial motor vehicle rollover at the intersection of Wallbridge-Loyalist Road and Hamilton Road.

The preliminary investigation determined that a truck travelling eastbound on Hamilton Road was unable to stop at the intersection. The driver took evasive action to avoid a collision with a passenger vehicle travelling southbound on Wallbridge-Loyalist Road, causing the truck and attached trailer to roll onto their side.

The truck driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment.

The vehicle was transporting water; however, diesel fuel leaked from the truck’s fuel tanks, requiring environmental remediation. Officials from the Ministry of the Environment attended the scene to oversee cleanup operations.

The roadway remained closed until approximately 2:00 a.m. to allow emergency crews and cleanup personnel to safely clear the scene and ensure the area was safe for reopening.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash camera footage of the incident is asked to contact Constable Tinsley at stinsley@bellevilleps.ca.
