BELLEVILLE, ON – Loyalist College students are leading a community safety initiative called “Eyes Up Belleville”. The campaign, delivered under Parachute Canada in partnership with the Children’s Safety Village of Belleville, aims to reduce distracted driving in the city. The Belleville Police Traffic Safety Unit will be supporting and collaborating with the students on this important project.

As part of the campaign, the Belleville Police Traffic Safety Unit will conduct proactive positive interactions between April 15 and May 1. Drivers observed following the rules and demonstrating safe driving behaviors may be stopped and rewarded for their responsible actions.

“This student-led initiative is a creative and impactful way to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving,” said Cst. Scott Tinsley of the Belleville Police Service Traffic Safety Unit. “While safe driving should be a habit every day, this campaign reminds us all that even small actions, like keeping your eyes on the road, can save lives.”

The initiative is led by Loyalist College nursing students Anastasiya Stackaruk and Madison Woolley, who have a strong interest in pediatric nursing and youth safety. Community members can take the pledge to drive distraction-free and enter giveaways by scanning the QR code or visiting Instagram @eyesupbelleville until May 1. Beyond the campaign, the students and Belleville Police will continue promoting distracted driving awareness on social media, with a focus on youth and new drivers.

Distracted driving remains a serious concern in Belleville. By assisting the students in bringing this initiative to life, Belleville Police aim to create a safer community and remind residents that safe roads are a shared responsibility.
