Notice of SIU Investigation

On October 9th, there was an incident at a Belleville hospital between police and a youth. The Belleville Police Service has notified the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) of the incident, and it has invoked its mandate. As such, the Belleville Police Service is unable to provide any further information. Any further inquiries should be directed to the SIU Communications.

Intimate Partner Violence

On October 9th at 7:55pm Belleville Police responded to a residence in the city’s east end regarding a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, police spoke with both parties and two witnesses. It was reported that a verbal argument between a male and a female had escalated, during which the male grabbed the female by the throat, and the female threw a glass bottle at the male’s head.

As a result of investigation, the following persons were arrested charged:

A 26-year-old Belleville woman was charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon

A 30-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault causing bodily harm – choking
  • Failure to comply with probation order

Both individuals were released on Undertakings and are scheduled to appear in court in November.

Breach of Release Order

On October 10th at 4:05am, Belleville Police responded to a residence in the city’s west end regarding an unwanted person. A female reported that her ex-boyfriend attended her residence, which was in breach of his conditions to not communicate with her or attend her address. Police attended and located him. As a result, a 37-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged with two counts of failure to comply with a release order. He was held for a bail hearing.
