Fraud

On October 1st, Belleville Police received a report that an unknown person had stolen a wallet overnight from a vehicle. The victim’s debit and credit cards were used at various locations throughout the night.

Officers attended one of the locations where the stolen cards had been used and reviewed video surveillance. They observed a suspect using the missing wallet and making purchases before leaving. The individual seen in the footage was known to police.

On October 2nd at 1:08pm, Belleville Police responded to a report of an unwanted person in the city’s west end. Upon arrival, officers located a male and recognized him as the suspect from the fraud investigation the previous day.

As a result, a 34-year-old Belleville man with no fixed address was arrested and charged with two counts of Fraud Under $5,000. He was held for a bail hearing.
