Failing to stop for police leads to multiple charges

On the 17th of April at 2:40pm, police were dispatched to a residence in the central part of the city for a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, police learned that the male involved had already left in a vehicle and was believed to be impaired by alcohol. The suspect vehicle was located nearby and fled from police. A short time later officers were able to safely stop the vehicle and arrested the 30-year-old male driver from Belleville.  During the arrest, the male continually spat and kicked police.  Following the investigation, the male was charged with Flight from Police, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Impaired Driving and Over 80. Additionally, he was charged with two counts of Assault Peace Officer, along with several Highway Traffic Act Offences.  He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Public Intoxication

For the second time in three days, a 37-year-old woman of no fixed address was arrested for public intoxication. On 17th of April at 7:19pm, officers were dispatched to Front Street for a female causing a disturbance. The female was located in a business causing problems. Due to her level of intoxication and the concern for her safety the female was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place contrary to the Liquor License Control Act. The female received a Provincial Offence Notice and was released once sober.

Domestic Assault

On the 17th of April at 8:21pm, police were called to a disturbance at a residence in the city’s west end.  The police investigation revealed that a male had assaulted his female spouse and uttered threats to cause death. As a result, a 22-year-old Belleville man was arrested for assault and uttering threats. He was later released on an Undertaking with strict conditions and a court date in May.

On the 18th of April at 6:00pm, a Belleville police officer preforming speed enforcement on Highway #37 conducted a vehicle stop for a speeding violation.  A check of the driver confirmed that they were prohibited from driving as a result of a criminal conviction.  Nadine Newman, 39-years-old of Roslin was charged with Operation while Prohibited and released with a court date in May.  Additionally, the vehicle was seized for 45 days.

On the 18th of April at 11:50am, Belleville Police were contacted by a female reporting that her ex-partner had been contacting her.  The partner had been charged the week before with a number of domestic related offences and one of the release conditions was not to communicate with her.  At 2:00pm, the male was arrested at his residence.  The 33-year-old Belleville resident was charged with fail to comply with an Undertaking and held for a bail hearing.

On the 18th of April at 4:00pm, Belleville Police responded to an east end residence regarding a break and enter.  The suspect was located by the homeowner entering through a basement window.  The suspect was known to the homeowner and had previous issues with the same suspect harassing them.  The suspect fled prior to police arrival.  Police continued the investigation and at 10pm the suspect was arrested at his residence.  As a result of the investigation, a 31-year-old Belleville resident was charged with Break and Enter, Mischief, Indecent Communications and two counts of Criminal Harassment.  He was held in custody for a bail hearing. 

Vehicle strikes parked car – driver fled on foot

On the 19th of April at 11:45pm, Belleville Police responded to Moira Street East and Cameron Street regarding a motor vehicle collision.  Officers arrived on scene and observed that a blue Elantra had been westbound on Moira Street and struck an unoccupied parked vehicle causing a large amount of damage to both vehicles.  Additionally, witnesses observed the driver of the Elantra take off on foot towards North Front Street immediately after the collision.  A search was conducted for the driver but was unsuccessful.  Police are continuing the investigation.  Anyone with any information regarding this collision and the identity of the driver is asked to contact PC Huppee at ghuppee@bellevilleps.ca or 613-966-0882 x4247 or Crime Stoppers.

Motor vehicle collision leads to Highway Traffic act charge

On the 19th of April at 1:43pm, Belleville Police responded to the intersection of Church Street and Victoria Avenue regarding a two-vehicle collision.  The collision resulted in minor injuries which sent one person to the hospital for treatment and both vehicles were not drivable.  As a result of the investigation, a 29-year-old Belleville resident was issued an Offence Notice for making an unsafe turn.

Suspicious activity near jewelry store prompts police response

On the 21st of April at 12:59am, Belleville Police responded to a north-end jewelry store regarding a suspicious vehicle. Police received further information that suggested a possible break in may occur as a vehicle, described as dark colored sedan, being operated by an unknown person wearing a mask had triggered a business alarm which alerted security. Officers flooded the area however were unable to locate the vehicle in question. The vehicle is believed to be a Nissan sedan, with no rear plate, and an obscured front plate. Suspended Driver

On the 20th of April at 10:55pm, officers on general patrol conducted a traffic stop in the city’s west end. During their investigation, officers learned that the driver of the vehicle was currently suspended from operating a motor vehicle. The driver, a 38-year-old male from Belleville was charged with driving while suspended.  He was issued a summons for a court date in June.

Single motor vehicle collision

On the 21st of April at 3:06pm, Belleville Police, Fire and Hastings-Quinte Paramedics responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Blessington Rd after a vehicle left the roadway, entered the ditch and nearly struck a pole.  The 65-year-old male driver from Belleville was assessed at the scene by Paramedics and later taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.   As a result of the investigation, the driver was issued a Provincial Offence Notice for making an unsafe move under the Highway Traffic Act.
