- The Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment Marks 80th Anniversary of WWII
BELLEVILLE, ON – On October 4th, the Hastings and Prince Edward Regimental Association, known as the “Hasty P’s,” held a ceremony at St. Thomas’ Anglican Church in Belleville to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and the Regiment’s return home.
The ceremony honoured approximately 3,500 soldiers who served with the Regiment between its landing in Sicily on July 10, 1943, and the end of the war in 1945. Dignitaries, veterans, family members, and representatives from Belleville, Peterborough, Cobourg, and surrounding communities gathered to read the names of every soldier, including those who were killed in action.
As tradition holds, members of the Regiment who have passed on, even years after they’ve hung up their uniform, are said to have transferred to the White Battalion – an arm of the Regimental Family that honours the memory of all Hasty P’s.
The Regiment extends sincere appreciation to the communities involved in this important observance and remains committed to honouring the courage and sacrifices of all those who served.
