BELLEVILLE, ON — The Belleville Police Service is proud to announce that it has signed the 30Forward Pledge, an international initiative dedicated to creating a more inclusive future for police members and the communities they serve.

The 30Forward Pledge builds on the success of the global 30×30 Pledge and focuses on increasing the representation, recruitment, and retention of women in policing across Canada beyond 2030. This commitment reflects the Belleville Police Service’s ongoing efforts to build a workforce that is both representative of the community and strengthened by diverse skills and perspectives.

“We are proud to join the 30Forward Pledge, which represents our shared commitment to maintaining a police service that values inclusion, opportunity, and representation,” said Chief Murray Rodd. “When our community sees itself reflected in the faces and voices of our members, it strengthens trust and collaboration in keeping Belleville safe.”

Participation in 30 Forward does not mean lowering standards, excluding men from opportunities, or hiring unqualified candidates. Rather, it affirms our commitment to equitable recruitment, retention, and advancement practices that strengthen our service and the communities we serve.

“This pledge is about more than numbers; it is about culture,” said Deputy Chief Sheri Meeks. “Having more women in policing does not limit opportunities for others. It broadens the range of experiences, perspectives, and skills that strengthen our Service. Through the 30Forward Pledge, we are committing to examine how we recruit, how we retain, and how we promote women in policing.”

The Belleville Police Service’s participation in the 30Forward initiative is a long-term commitment focused on removing barriers, encouraging women to pursue policing, and ensuring advancement and leadership opportunities are accessible and supported.

The Service joins several police organizations across Ontario in signing the 30Forward Pledge.
