To the City of Belleville Crossing Guards,

Every day of the school year, you are at your posts making sure children get to and from school safely. In all kinds of weather and through busy traffic, you show up. It is often a thankless job, but it is an important one, and our community is safer because of you.

On January 19th, that commitment was especially clear. Residents across Belleville would agree that conditions were well below average. With heavy snow and wind gusts up to 70 km per hour, and near whiteout conditions where vehicles could barely see, many would have chosen to stay home.

But you showed up. You stepped into challenging conditions to ensure children crossed safely and arrived at school without incident.

Our annual Cops, Coffees, and Crossing Guards event is one small way we try to show our appreciation, but we would be remiss if we did not say that our gratitude lasts far longer than a single week. We see you out there, especially on days like January 19th, and we once again extend our thanks.

Community safety is our number one priority, and you play a vital role as a partner in that effort.

We see you.
We appreciate you.
And we thank you.

Belleville is a better community because of the work you do and the kindness and dedication it takes to serve as a crossing guard.

With sincere gratitude,

The Belleville Police Service
