BELLEVILLE, ON – The Belleville Police Service announces the retirement of Sgt. Pat Comeau, effective January 31, 2026, marking the close of a remarkable 34-year career of service.

Sgt. Comeau began his career as a Police Constable in the Uniform Division on July 15, 1991, quickly earning a reputation as a dedicated officer and natural leader. Over more than three decades, he served in a variety of roles, ending his career in the Training Unit, after being promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2022. His influence is reflected in the confidence and preparedness of Belleville Police members, leaving a lasting impact that will endure for years to come.

Beyond his formal duties, Sgt. Comeau’s commitment to community engagement has been extraordinary. He is the founder of the Cops and Kids Fishing Derby, a beloved annual tradition for more than 18 years that continues to bring officers and youth together, strengthening trust and connection within the community. He was also a long-time supporter of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, receiving an Award of Honour in 2007, and proudly represented the Service in NHL Alumni Hockey Games.

Sgt. Comeau’s service and citizenship have been recognized through numerous Chief’s Commendations, letters of thanks, and awards, including a nomination for the Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship, a nomination for the Order of Merit of the Police Forces, and the Medal for Exemplary Service (2012). In 1994, he was awarded the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem for his role in saving a life, further reflecting the compassion and courage that defined his career.

While Sgt. Comeau’s accomplishments are many, his true legacy lies in the people he mentored, the community he brought together, and the positive, supportive culture he helped foster.
