The following are media releases from incidents this previous weekend that the Belleville Police are now able to issue. Domestic incident leads to attempt murder charge for Ottawa man On Friday, May 30th at 5:03pm, Belleville Police responded to a residence in the city’s east end for a complaint of a domestic dispute. Upon their arrival, police clearly heard an ongoing altercation inside the residence and immediately became concerned for the safety of those involved.  Police forcibly entered the residence and had to contend with the door being intentionally barricaded with a couch. Special Olympics Polar Plunge Comes to Belleville – DATE CHANGE TO MARCH 28th at 1:00 pm at HERCHIMER BOAT LAUNCH

The City of Belleville Polar Plunge was originally scheduled for Friday, March 21st, however due to ice conditions and for safety reasons, the Polar Plunge has been rescheduled to Friday, March 28th at 1:00 pm at the Herchimer Boat Launch. Members of the Belleville Police Service, Belleville Fire and Emergency Services, Hastings-Quinte Paramedic Services, Belleville Probation and Parole, and several other community organizations will once again be taking the plunge into the frigid waters of the Bay of Quinte in support of Special Olympics Ontario. The 2025 Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Ontario kicked off on January 18th, 2025 and is occurring across the province with the final plunge taking place in Peel Region on March 29th, 2025. MISSING PERSON – Rebecca Campbell

Police seeking public’s assistance in locating missing person   Belleville Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating 29-year-old Rebecca Campbell.  Campbell was last observed at her east end residence on the evening of February 26th, 2025.  Campbell was last seen wearing a Montreal Canadians sweater with blue and white tie dye “Fila” pants. MISSING PERSON

Belleville, ON: The Belleville Police Service is investigating a complaint of a missing male. 56-year-old Belleville, Ontario resident Donald Hughes was reported missing to Belleville Police after not being seen at his residence on Pearl Street, Belleville, Ontario, for a few days.   Donald Hughes is described as: 5’ 6” 155 lbs Blue eyes Salt and pepper short hair Short facial hair Unknown clothing   Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Donald Hughes is asked to contact the Belleville Police Service at 613-962-3456.   Back to News

UPDATE MISSING PERSON – ANDREW ROBINSON

On the 30th of December, 2024, the Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police notified the Belleville Police Service that a deceased male was located in the town of Brighton. Shortly before 4:00 p.m., OPP received a report from CN Police regarding an individual found in the area of the train tracks near Ontario Street in Brighton, Ontario. The deceased male has been identified as missing Belleville, Ontario resident Andrew Robinson by the coroner’s office. The Northumberland OPP Crime Unit, Forensic Identification Services (IDENT), in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario, is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. A post-mortem examination is to be conducted by the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service in Kingston. Police at this time do not believe the death to be suspicious. Back to News

Child luring investigation leads to arrest and charges

On the 20th of November 2024, the Belleville Police Service received a call from a mother of an 11-year-old girl after discovering conversations, which appeared to be grooming in nature, on Tik Tok as well as in text messages between her daughter and a male who appeared to be 24-years old.  Members of the Belleville Police Service’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit began an investigation and as a result on the 11th of December, 24-year-old Travis Layzell of Bancroft was arrested without incident. Layzell was charged with adult luring a person under 16 years of age by telecommunications and held for a bail hearing on the 12th of December.  Police believe that Layzell may have attempted to contact other young females.  His TikTok display name was “clean 5.3” with the associated username of “that_stock_5.3_guy”.
