The Belleville Police Service responded to 83 calls for service from September 17th, 2020 at 5:00 a.m. to September 18th, 2020 at 5:00 a.m.
Theft / Trespass
Belleville, ON – September 17th, 2020 - 1:20 p.m.
City Police were dispatched to Canadian Tire on Bell Blvd in regards to a male shoplifter. Police arrived on scene and were advised that the suspect was seen trying to remove valve caps and automobile air fresheners from the store without paying. Police charged a 43-year-old man and Belleville resident for Engaging in Unlawful Activity under the Ontario Trespass to Property Act. The male suspect was escorted off the property by police and served a trespass notice.
Disturbance / Drug Overdose
Belleville, ON – September 17th, 2020 - 4:10 p.m.
Police dispatched received a call regarding a possible fight with a male lying unconscious in the driveway at a residence in the west end of the city. When officers arrived, they found the unconscious male whom they determined had overdosed on narcotics. Officers administered two doses of Narcan and were able to revive the male to a stable condition. City EMS arrived shortly thereafter and transported the male to Belleville General Hospital where he received medical care. The fight was unfounded and no criminal charges were laid.
Warrant Arrest
Belleville, ON – September 17th, 2020 – 5:00 p.m.
City police received information from Quinte Detention Centre that they were releasing a female that they have had in custody and who had an outstanding warrant with the Belleville Police regarding three counts of Breach of Probation. Belleville Police confirmed the warrant was in good standing and already before the courts.
32-year-old Kristine Wendling of Belleville was arrested by city police at the detention centre and brought back to Belleville where she will attend a Show Cause Hearing scheduled for 10am on September 18th, 2020.
Motor Vehicle Collision
Belleville, ON – September 17th, 2020 - 6:25 p.m.
City police attended a motor vehicle collision at the corner of North Front St and College St. There were no injuries reported but moderate damage to the vehicles which had to be removed by tow recovery.
A 27-year-old Belleville man was charged with Fail to Yield from Private Driveway under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act.
Solicitation / Fraud
Belleville, ON – September 17th, 2020 – 8:00 p.m.
City police attended a west end residence regarding a fraud complaint. Upon arrival, officers were advised by the complainant that he paid, via interac wire transfer, for sexual services and did not receive the services he requested. The complainant was advised by police that his interactions could constitute a criminal charge. Police are still continuing to look into the matter to identify which service or suspects may be defrauding potential victims.
Disturbance
Belleville, ON – September 17th, 2020 – 9:00 p.m.
City police received a call from a residence in the north west part of the city regarding a disturbance. Officers arrived on scene and found a few different parties arguing. One male was being uncooperative with police and officers were afraid that the man, who was very intoxicated, may attempt to leave in his vehicle.
The 43-year-old Belleville man was apprehended for his own safety and the safety of the other parties involved and brought to the Belleville Police Service until he was sober enough to look after himself.
Suspend Drive
Belleville, ON – September 18th, 2020 – 2:30 a.m.
A city police officer conducted a vehicle stop on Front St. The investigative stop revealed that the female driver was a suspended driver in the province of Ontario. Further investigation revealed that the female operator had no insurance on the vehicle as well as the plates not authorized to be on the vehicle.
The 37-year-old Belleville woman was charged with the following offences under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act and the Ontario Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act;
- Drive Suspended
- Plates not Authorized
- No Validated Permit
- Operate Motor Vehicle with No Insurance
The vehicle was seized by police for 7 days under the provincial legislation and she is scheduled to appear in the Provincial Offences Court on November 2nd, 2020.
