The Belleville Police Service responded to 57 calls for service from October 26th, 2020 at 5:00 a.m. to October 27th, 2020 at 5:00 a.m.

Fraud

Belleville, ON – On the 26th of October 2020 at 3:52 p.m., police received a call for service regarding a fraud. The victim received a phone call from and unknown person stating she had been the winner of 5.5 million dollars and a new car. All the caller required was twenty thousand dollars before the prize could be paid out. The victim sent a portion of the money before getting cold feet and calling the police. The Belleville Police Service would like to remind the public to be vigilant before sending money over the internet, wire transfers or random accounts. The majority of these calls are fraudulent in nature, and often times the victims never recover the money.

Motor Vehicle Collisions

Belleville, ON – Over the past 24 hours, city police responded to 8 motor vehicles collisions. One collision resulted in a driver being charged for making an improper turn under section 141(6) of The Highway Traffic Act. One driver was taken to hospital as a precaution but no serious injuries were reported from any of the collisions.
