The Belleville Police Service responded to 38 calls for service from October 12th, 2020 at 5:00 a.m. to October 13th, 2020 at 5:00 a.m.

Impaired Driving – Motor Vehicle Collision

Belleville, ON – October 12th, 2020 – 5:00 a.m.

Belleville Police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Dundas St W at Avondale Rd.  Police report that a single motor vehicle left the roadway and struck a hydro pole, shearing the pole in half causing a power blackout in the surrounding area.  EMS, Belleville Fire and Hydro crews attended the scene.  Dundas St W near the collision location was shut down for approximately 3 hours of the morning while crews restored power and cleared wreckage from the roadway.  The lone male driver was transported to Belleville General Hospital with minor injuries.  Police report that alcohol was a factor in this collision. 

49-year-old Trenton resident, John Youngs was arrested and charged with Impaired Driving and Operation of a Motor Vehicle while Blood Alcohol Content Exceeded 80mgs.  The accused had double the legal limit of alcohol in his system at the time of the crash.  Mr. Youngs is scheduled to appear in court on November 12th, 2020 to answer to his charge.   

Police Pursuit – Stolen Vehicle

Belleville, ON – October 12th, 2020 – 10:30 a.m.

City police officers attempted to identify two males in a U-Haul cube van parked in a hotel parking lot on North Front St.  Officers had information of a police pursuit that occurred the evening before out of the Tyendinaga region with a similar vehicle.  When officers approached the U-Haul truck, the suspect driver took off southbound on North Front St.  Police pursued the U-Haul truck westbound on College St W into the west park area where the suspect vehicle got turned around on a dead-end street.  The two male occupants fled on foot but were quickly chased down by officers and taken into custody.  The investigation revealed that the U-Haul cube Van was reported stolen.   

The driver, a 29-year-old Toronto resident, was charged with the following offences;

  • Flight from Police
  • Fail to Stop
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000
  • Driving Without a Driver’s Licence

The occupying passenger, a 33-year-old Montreal resident was charged with the following offences;

  • Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000
  • Possession of Stolen Property Under $5000
  • Identity Theft
  • Breach of Probation

Both accused were held in custody and will appear in court on October 13th, 2020 for a Show Cause Hearing before a Justice. 

The investigating officer is asking that any motorist that were affected in proximity during this vehicle pursuit to call the Belleville Police Service at 613-966-0882 and request to speak with Constable Waite. 

Assault Police / Attempt to Disarm a Police Officer

Belleville, ON – October 12th, 2020 – 5:15 p.m.

City police were dispatched to a west side townhouse complex in regards to a female who was smashing out residential windows and attempting to burn down the complex unit.  When officers arrived on scene, they made contact with the suspect and attempted to place the female under arrest.  The female suspect kicked the arresting officer in the groin and engaged in a combative altercation.  During the skirmish, the female suspect grabbed onto the officer’s service sidearm attempting to remove the firearm.  The suspect was unsuccessful in her attempt and was secured in custody immediately.  After the accused was in custody, she spit into the eyes of an assisting officer who was on scene.  The accused, a 39-year-old Belleville resident was charged for the following offences;

  • Mischief to Property Under $5000
  • Assault Police Officer while Attempting to Resist Arrest
  • Attempting to Disarm a Police Officer
  • Assault Police Officer

The accused was held in custody and will appear in court on October 13th, 2020 for a Show Cause Hearing.
