Belleville Police Service responded to 71 calls for service from the 17th of November 2020 at 5:00 a.m. to the 18th of November 2020 at 5:00 a.m.

Assault with a Weapon

Belleville, ON – On the 17th of November shortly before 3:30 p.m. police were called to a University Ave. address with regards to a male who had been pepper sprayed after he confronted another male that he had found in his back yard. Police utilized the Canine and Tactical Units which led them to a nearby address and an arrest of a suspect was made. 40-year-old Belleville resident Jody Wannamaker was taken to The Belleville Police Service where he was later released on an undertaking. He faces charges of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace.

Internal Theft

Belleville, ON – On the 17th of November shortly after 7:00 p.m. police attended a North end retail store for the report of ongoing thefts that were being committed by an employee. Investigation showed that the 25-year-old female stole approximately $700 worth of merchandise over a four-month period. Belleville resident Shilpa Shilpa was charged with theft under $5000 and given a December 10th court date to answer to the charge.

Drug Charges

Belleville, ON – On the 17th of November at 11:30 p.m. police arrested a male as he was being released from The Quinte Regional Detention Centre. The male had been released from a bail hearing that day but further information came forward leading to additional charges. The 38-year-old Belleville male is being held for another bail hearing on the 18th of November with the additional charges being seven counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, failing to comply with his undertaking and breach of probation.

Public Intoxication

Belleville, ON – On the 17th of November at approximately midnight police arrested a 27-year-old Belleville male for public intoxication after being called to a disturbance in the city’s east end. Police were called to a Pine St. address on a report of two males fighting. The fight was over prior to police arrival and one of the males was seen running in the direction of Herchimer Ave. The male was located a short time later, arrested for public intoxication and taken to The Belleville Police Service where he was lodged in cells until morning before being release on a provincial offence notice.
