Scam Alert
Belleville, ON – The Belleville Police would like to caution residents who may happen to receive emails regarding rescued abused pets such as cats and dogs. There have been a few reports of this in the city and one incident known to police where a victim was scammed out of approximately fifteen hundred dollars. The scammers are claiming to ship you a rescued animal using a legitimate shipping company but after victims send money, the pets do not arrive. If you receive an email or text asking if you would like to purchase a rescued, abused pet, please use caution as these are most likely scams. Police are reminding residents that if they wish to adopt pet animals to use known sources such as local shelters.
Drug Warrant
Belleville, ON – On May 12th, 2020 at approximately 4:30 p.m., members of the Belleville Police Drug Unit and the Emergency Response Team conducted a search warrant at an address in the downtown city core. Two individuals were arrested in the residence for being in possession of controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking.
Fifty-One-Year-Old Quinte West resident, Michael Labarge was charged with Possession of Cocaine for the purpose of Trafficking, Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the purpose of Trafficking and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.
Fity-Seven-Year-Old Belleville resident, Brenda Biggar was charged with Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and Fail to Comply with a Probation Order.
Both Individuals are scheduled to attend the Belleville Ontario Court of Justice on July 20th, 2020 to answer to the charges.
Impaired Operation, Obstruct Police & Drugs
Belleville, ON – On May 12th, 2020 at approximately 7:30 p.m., city police were dispatched to the intersection of Dundas St E and MacDonald Av. regarding two people passed out in the front seats of a motor vehicle in the intersection at the traffic light. When police arrived on scene, they found a female passed out in the front passenger seat and a male driver completely unconscious in the driver’s seat with the car still in drive. Officers were able to get in the car and shift the vehicle into park while the male was still unconscious. Fortunately, the driver passed out with his foot on the brake pedal officers noted, or there could have been a serious motor vehicle collision.
Police conducted an investigation and ended up charging the male driver, 36-year-old Belleville resident Krzysztof Wolf with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle by Drugs. Police seized the vehicle and Mr. Wolf also had his drivers licence suspended for 90 days. The female passenger, 31-year-old Belleville resident, Keyia-Marie Atkinson was also charged with Possession of Fentanyl, Obstruct Police and 2 counts of Breaching a Court Order.
Mr. Wolf is scheduled to attend the Belleville Ontario Court of Justice on July 16th, 2020 and Ms. Atkinson is scheduled for court on July 20th, 2020 to answer to their charges.
