The Belleville Police Service responded to 52 calls for service from March 25th, 2021 at 5:00 a.m. to March 26th, 2021 at 5:00 a.m.

Impaired Driving

Belleville, ON On the 25th of March 2021, at approximately 10:09 p.m., an officer was conducting speed enforcement in the West end of the city. He caught a vehicle travelling eastbound on Dundas Street West near Avonlough Road. He stopped a vehicle for travelling over the posted speed limit of 60km/h. The officer approached the male driver and lone occupant of the vehicle to request documentation. After making the request, the officer noticed a strong smell of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the driver. The male was subsequently arrested for impaired driving and taken to The Belleville Police Service for testing. The male provided to suitable sample of breath the were more than twice the legal limit. The first sample was 189mgs of alcohol per 100ml of blood and a second sample was 179mgs of alcohol per 100ml of blood. 51-year-old Brent NEWMAN of Belleville was charge with impaired driving and driving while over 80mgs. He was given a first court appearance for the 15th of April 2021 to answer to the charges.

Breach of the Peace

Belleville, ON – On the 26th of March 2021, at approximately 12:00 a.m., police attended an East end residence for a report of a disturbance. On arrival, police were led to the male causing the disturbance for the remainder of the occupants. He was in the back shed consuming marijuana and was irate and uncooperative with police stating that he was going to hurt the officers. The male had to be subdued by officers and was arrested for breaching the peace for the safety of the remainder of the residents. The 30-year-old Belleville man was taken back to The Police Service where he was later released once deemed to no longer pose a threat to others.
