The Belleville Police Service responded to 72 calls for service from June 29th, 2020 at 5:00 a.m. to June 30th, 2020 at 5:00 a.m.

Drug Trafficking

Belleville, ON – On June 29th, 2020 at approximately 10:30 a.m., city police received a couple calls regarding two vehicles attending residences in the West park area and causing some issues with residents.  The suspect vehicles were located by officers on Tracey Park Drive and were stopped.  As a result of the police investigation, two males were arrested on drug charges and transported to the Belleville Police station. 

Joquin Gairey, a 24-year-old resident from Toronto was charged with one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine and one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl. 

Cario Brown, a 19-year-old resident of Ajax was charged with one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine and one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl. 

Mr. Gairey and Mr. Brown were released on their own recognizance and are scheduled to appear in the Belleville Ontario Court of Justice on August 24th, 2020 to answer to their charges. 

Suspended Drive

Belleville, ON – On June 29th, 2020 at approximately 12:10 p.m., a city officer conducted a traffic stop on Octavia Street.  The vehicle stop investigation revealed that the male driver was a suspended driver in the province of Ontario. 

A 65-year-old Belleville resident was charged with Driving Under Suspension contrary to the Ontario Highway Traffic Act. 

Drive – No Licence Charge

Belleville, ON – On June 29th, 2020 at approximately 1:30 p.m., a city officer conducted a traffic stop on Hwy 2 East.  The vehicle stop investigation revealed that the driver was never a licenced driver in the province of Ontario.  The female owner of the vehicle was found in the passenger seat. 

The 47-year-old male driver from Belleville was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Without a Licence and the 42-year-old female passenger from Belleville was charged with, Owner Permitting an Unlicensed Driver to Operate a Motor Vehicle.  Both charges are in contravention to the Ontario Highway Traffic Act. 

Motor Vehicle Collision with Injuries

Belleville, ON – On June 29th, 2020 at approximately 2:00 p.m., city police were dispatched to the intersection of Queen Street at Bleecker Avenue regarding a two-motor vehicle collision.  Belleville Fire and City EMS attended the scene as well.  There was considerable damage to both vehicles and airbags deployed in both vehicles as well causing some injuries to one of the drivers.  One driver was transported to Belleville General Hospital to be treated for their injuries. 

One of the drivers, a Belleville resident, was charged with Failing to Stop at a Stop Sign contrary to the Ontario Highway Traffic Act.  Both vehicles had to be removed from the scene by tow recovery. 

Animals Left in Vehicles

Belleville, ON – It’s that time of year again…  The Belleville Police responded to a handful of calls in the last 24 hours about animals being left in vehicles in parking lots while owners quickly rush into stores. 

The Belleville Police would like to remind residents, please, do not leave your pets in your vehicles during the hot summer months.  Police advise, on some of these extreme hot days, even with windows slightly ajar, temperatures can reach deadly highs which doesn’t take long to send your fury friend into distress.  Police are cautioning that a pet owner who is negligent with regards to this action can possibly face a criminal charge. 

Numerous Drug Arrests / Charges

Belleville, ON – “Project Renewal” is a joint task force made up of members of the Belleville Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police Drug Units.  On June 29th, 2020 “Project Renewal” was extremely busy with multiple arrests and charges locally.  There will be a specific media release issued later today with more details to follow. 

Breach of the Peace

Belleville, ON – On June 29th, 2020 at approximately 7:30 p.m., city police responded in the area of Lewis Street and Yeomans Street regarding a disturbance.  Witnesses advised officers that a man was running up and down the street carry a large rock over his head, yelling at random pedestrians.  Police located a 54-year-old Belleville man on Lewis Street that fit the description that the witnesses had provided.  The gentleman was somewhat combative with the officers.  The suspect was arrested for Breach of the Peace and transported to the police station where he was placed in cells until he calmed down.  There were no injuries to the suspect or to any other citizens. 

Domestic Assault / Warrants

Belleville, ON – On June 29th, 2020 at approximately 8:30 p.m., city police were dispatched to a residence in the south west part of the city regarding a domestic assault.  Upon arrival officers located a female victim who advised she was assaulted by her common-law spouse in the residence.  The suspect had fled the scene prior to police arrival.  The victim offered the police a description of the suspect.  Assisting officers arrived on the scene and searched the area subsequently locating the suspect a block away.  The suspect was taken into custody without incident.  Further investigation revealed that the suspect had an outstanding warrant with the city police as well. 

The accused, a 23-year-old Belleville resident was held in custody at the Belleville Police Service to appear before a Justice at a Show Cause Hearing scheduled for June 30th, 2020 at 11am.  The accused is facing the following charges;

  • Uttering Threats to Cause Death
  • Assault – 2 counts
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Fail to Comply with a Probation Order
  • Domestic Assault

The name of the accused is not being released to protect the integrity and identity of the victim. 

Garage Break-Ins

Belleville, ON – Police are reporting that they have received a rash of break ins to residential garages in the city over the past 24 hours.  Various items have been taken such as lawn equipment and bicycles.  Police would like to remind citizens to be vigilant and make sure that all garage and shed doors are closed, secured or locked and to report any suspicious activity to the police.
