Phone Scams Continue

Belleville ON- Belleville Police continue to receive complaints regarding phone scams where people are told that they have arrest warrants in their name, and that they have to pay sum of money to the caller who identifies himself as an “officer” in order to clear their name. Two such calls resulted in the victims transferring $1000 each to the unknown scammers. Recently, police have received information that the scammers have been disguising their phones numbers using local phone number combinations in order to appear legitimate. Police are reminding everyone that they do not contact people to exchange money in return for clearing up warrants, and should you receive such a call, or any similar type call, please report it to Belleville Police.
