The Belleville Police Service responded to 101 calls for service from July 8th, 2020 at 5:00 a.m. to July 9th, 2020 at 5:00 a.m.
EMS Assist – Drug Overdose
Belleville, ON – On July 8th, 2020 at approximately 9:50am, city police were contacted by City EMS requesting assistance with a female who had overdosed on drugs and was unresponsive. As officers were on the way to the west park residence, they were notified by EMS that the victim was revived and was extremely combative with EMS crews. Police arrived on scene and were able to assist the medics in restraining the victim and attended Belleville General Hospital with EMS to ensure her safety. The 41-year-old female victim was safely transported to BGH and treated.
Weapons Dangerous & Mischief
Belleville, ON – On June 8th, 2020 at approximately 2:45pm, city police were dispatched to a residence in the south west end regarding a disturbance involving a mother and her son who was armed with a knife threatening his mother and destroying items the home. Upon police arrival, officers found the youth male in a very aggressive state. The mother advised officers that her son suffers from mental health issues. The officers were able to calm the youth down and assisted EMS in transporting the young male to Belleville General Hospital for treatment.
The investigation revealed that numerous contents in the home were destroyed valued in the thousands of dollars.
The youth was charged with Mischief Over $5000 and Weapons Dangerous and released into the custody of Providence Care in Kingston Ontario.
Theft of Laptop Computer
Belleville, ON – On July 8th, 2020 at approximately 6:45pm, police were notified by a female complainant that she parked her vehicle in the parking lot at a south west plaza and an unknown suspect stole her laptop computer off of the front passenger seat. The complainant advised police that she did not lock her car doors and she was only in one of the department stores for approximately 15 – 20 minutes. Police checked local stores for any possible CCTV footage but were advised that no video was available.

Impaired Driving
Belleville, ON – On July 8th, 2020 at approximately 8pm, police dispatch was notified by multiple callers of an SUV with a broken axel travelling on Wallbridge-Loyalist Rd. Further reports advised that the SUV crossed the centre lane and nearly struck another oncoming vehicle head on. Multiple police units attended the area. The vehicle was not located on Wallbridge-Loyalist Rd and information was received that the suspect vehicle made its way into the city on Moira St W.
Police located the suspect SUV on Everette St at Catherine St in damaged condition but still operational. The male driver was arrested for impaired driving and transported back to the Belleville Police Service to provide samples of his breath.
Tests concluded that the accused blood alcohol content exceeded the legal limit. The accused, 31-year-old William McInnis of Marlbank, was charged with the following offences;
- Impaired Driving
- Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Blood/Alcohol Content Exceeded 80mgs
- Suspended Drive – 2 counts
- Use Plates Not Authorized
- Drive – No Insurance
- Operate Unsafe Vehicle
- Operate Vehicle – No Ownership
- Fail to Display Two Plates
- Operate Motor Vehicle – No Seat Belt
City police impounded the vehicle for 7 days and suspended the driver’s licence for an additional 90 days under the provincial legislation. The accused will attend the Belleville Ontario Court of Justice on August 6th, 2020 to answer to his charges.
Disturbance with a Machete
Belleville, ON – On July 8th, 2020 at approximately 10:30pm, city police received a call about a male chasing people with a machete in the Bogart Cr and Palmer Rd area. When police arrived on scene, they were advised that the suspect with the machete left in a vehicle. Officers located the suspect vehicle quickly on Palmer Rd and conducted a vehicle stop. A male and female youth in the vehicle were detained by the officers and a machete was located in the vehicle.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect with the machete did not, in fact, chase people while carrying the weapon. Police were advised that a small group of youth were arguing over ex-boyfriends in which one was in possession of the machete. All the individuals involved in the incident were identified by the police and the investigation is continuing. Charges may be pending.
Discharged Firearm – EMS Assist
Belleville, ON – On July 9th, 2020 at approximately 1:30am, city police received a call for assistance from City EMS advising they were attending a south west city residence where a firearm was discharged and medical attention was required.
Police arrived on scene, setup containment on the residence and made contact with a male at the front door of the home. The male was holding a shotgun and surrendered it, placing it on the ground in front of the officers. Police secured and took possession of the firearm. Police report that there were a number of family members in the residence when the firearm was discharged. Further investigation revealed that a gentleman in the residence attempted to commit self harm with the firearm. Another family member attempted to wrestle the shotgun away when a round was accidently discharged into the wall of the residence.
City police apprehended a 52-year-old gentleman under the Ontario Mental Health Act and transported him to the Belleville General Hospital for care, assessment and treatment. Police report that there were no injuries sustained by any of the family members that were in the residence when the firearm was discharged. The investigation is continuing.
