The Belleville Police Service responded to 68 calls from the 9th of July 2021 at 5:00 a.m. until the 10th of July 2021 at 5:00 a.m.

Sounding False Fire Alarms Arrest

Belleville, ON – On May 21st of this year, Belleville Police were notified by Belleville Fire about an apartment complex on Bridge Street West where two fire alarms were pulled, causing an alert for tenants of the building.  Both times it was revealed there was no actual fire, or threat of fire, but that the alarms were sounded purposely.  Throughout a collaborative investigation by both agencies, an arrest was made on the morning of July 9th, 2021.  City resident Krystal Leah Vandam, 32-years of age, was arrested and charged with two counts of Mischief – obstructs, interrupts or interferes with any person in the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property contrary to section 430(1)(d) of the Criminal Code.  She was released on a Form 10 undertaking with conditions, and she is expected to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on August 19th 2021 at 09:00 a.m.

Traffic Enforcement

Belleville, ON – On July 9th 2021 at 5:04 p.m., an officer on routine traffic enforcement stopped a motor vehicle in the area of Sidney Street and College Street West.  This investigation revealed the male driver to be prohibited from driving anywhere in Canada, for life.  Police arrested and charged 67-year old Eugene Leroy Hubley of Marmora, Ontario with the offence of Operating While Prohibited contrary to section 320.18(1) of the Criminal Code.  He was released on a Form 9 appearance notice, and he is expected to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on September 23rd 2021 at 09:00 a.m. 

Cocaine Arrest

Belleville, ON – On July 9th 2021 at 9:02 p.m., police were called to Belleville Hospital to assist with a male who had been transported there by EMS, but who had taken off on the run prior to being observed by medical staff.  The male was located a short time later in the east end by police.  The investigation led to the man being arrested and taken into custody.  City man Joseph William Leslie Parks, 27 years of age, was charged with Possession of a schedule 1 substance under section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.  He was later released on a Form 9 appearance notice, and he is expected to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on August 9th 2021 at 9:00 a.m.
