The Belleville Police Service responded to 53 calls for service from January 8th, 2021 at 5:00 a.m. to January 9th, 2021 at 5:00 a.m.

Warrant / Theft Under $5000

Belleville, ON – January 8th, 2021

City police investigated a theft that occurred at a south east end store back in February 2020.  An accused was identified however was unable to be located at the time and an arrest warrant was issued. 

On today’s date, city police located the accused and took custody of an adult female on the outstanding warrant and transported her back to the Belleville Police Service. 

61-year-old, Kimberly Huntley of Quinte West was charged with one count of Theft Under $5000 and was released on her own recognizance.  The accused is scheduled to attend Belleville Court on February 4th, 2021 to answer to her charge. 

Theft Under $5000

Belleville, ON – January 8th, 2021 – 5:15 p.m.

City police were dispatched to a north end department store in regards to a shoplifting complaint.  Upon arrival, officers were met by department store security and advised that they had an adult male in custody for attempting to remove store product out of the store without paying for it.  Officers took custody of the suspect and transported him back to the Belleville Police Service. 

29-year-old, Jordan Loveday of Oshawa Ontario was charged with one count of theft Under $5000 and was released on his own recognizance.  The accused is scheduled to attend Belleville Court on February 11th, 2021 to answer to his charge.  The accused was also trespassed from the department store. 

Impaired Driving / Drugs / Possession

Belleville, ON – January 8th, 2021 – 7:30 p.m.

City police were in the area of Bridge Street East and Herchimer Avenue when they spotted a possible impaired driver.  The vehicle was stopped shortly later in a plaza parking lot.  The investigation revealed that the driver was impaired by drugs and was in contravention of numerous Highway traffic Act violations. 

45-year-old, Russell Locklin of Frankford was arrested and charged with the following offences;

  • 3 counts - Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance (Cocaine & Fentanyl)
  • Fail to Comply with a Probation Order
  • Operation of a Motor Vehicle while Impaired by Drugs
  • Fail to Surrender Motor Vehicle Permit
  • Driver Fail to Surrender Licence
  • Fail to Notify Change of Address
  • Fail to Surrender Proof of Insurance

The accused was later released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Belleville Court on February 8th, 2021 to answer to his charges.  The accused vehicle was seized and impounded from the scene. 

The investigation also revealed that the adult female passenger was also in possession of drugs.  41-year-old, Mirjana Celp of Frankford was also charged with 3 counts of Possession of Schedule 1 Substances, those being cocaine and fentanyl.  The female accused was released on her own recognizance as well and is scheduled to appear in Belleville Court on February 8th, 2021 to answer to her three charges. 

Warrant

Belleville, ON – January 8th, 2021 – 8:20 p.m.

City police were dispatched to a Hotel on North Front Street in regards to a possible break and enter in progress.  Officers arrived on scene and contacted the suspect who was pointed out by hotel staff.  The investigation revealed that the break and enter was unfounded however, the suspect involved was found to have an outstanding warrant that was already before the courts. 

33-year-old, Bruce Cooney of Belleville was arrested and charged with one count of Fail to Comply with Conditions of a Court Appearance Notice.  The accused was held in custody and will appear before a Provincial Court Justice at a Show Cause Hearing scheduled for January 9th, 2021 to answer to his charge. 

Warrant / Breach of Probation

Belleville, ON – January 8th, 2021 – 8:30 p.m.

Belleville Police were notified by the Central Hastings, Ontario Provincial Police that they had an adult male in custody on the authority of an outstanding Belleville warrant that was presently before the courts.  Belleville officers attended Central Hastings OPP and took custody of the accused and transported him to the Belleville Police service. 

38-year-old, Matthew Eggett of Marmora was charged with one count of Failing to Comply with a Probation order.  The accused was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Belleville Court on February 11th, 2021 to answer to his charge. 

Breach of Probation

Belleville, ON – January 8th, 2021 – 10:30 p.m.

City police were called to a possible domestic dispute around the outside of a hotel on North Front Street.  Officers arrived in the area but were unable to locate anybody near the hotel.  Police checked around the area further up the road a heard a female screaming.  Officers located a group of people further up the street.  The domestic dispute was determined to be unfounded however, a male stopped by the police was found to be in breach of his court ordered probation order.  Officers arrested the male suspect and transported him to the Belleville Police Service.

31-year-old, Tyler Egan of Belleville was charged with one count of Breach of Probation and was later released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Belleville Court on January 28th, 2021 to answer to his charge. 

Robbery / Assault Bodily Harm / Sexual Solicitation

Belleville, ON – January 9th, 2021 – 2:00 a.m.

City police were dispatched to a residential complex on North Front Street in regards to a violent assault and robbery.  Police arrived in the area and met with the female victim who received a serious injury to her hand after the suspect attempted to steal her purse while in her residence.

City EMS attended the scene and transported the victim to Belleville General Hospital with injuries from the interaction with the male suspect.  Police were given a description of the suspect and found the suspects vehicle nearby unoccupied.  The male suspect was located by police a short distance away within minutes after a short search.  The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Belleville Police Service. 

The accused, a 34-year-old man from Belleville was Charged with the following offences;

  • Robbery
  • Assault Causing Bodily Harm
  • Solicitation of Sexual Services

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear before a Provincial Court Justice on January 9th, 2021 for a Show Cause Hearing.  The name of the accused is not being released at this time to protect the victim’s identity and the integrity of the investigation.
