The Belleville Police Service responded to 70 calls for service from August 8th, 2020 at 5:00 a.m. to August 9th, 2020 at 5:00 a.m.
Disturbance / Breach Court Order
Belleville, ON – On August 8th, 2020 at approximately 8:00 a.m. city police responded to a disturbance at a local gas station in the Southeast part of the city. It was reported that there was a male in the store swearing at the staff and other customers and would not leave the premises when directed to do so by the gas station employees. When officers arrived on scene they took the male into custody for failing to leave the business. After checking the male on the police system, the accused was found to be in breach of two court ordered conditions.
30-year-old, Matthew Youmans of Belleville was charged with two counts of Failing to Comply with Court Release Orders and is scheduled to appear at the Belleville Ontario court of Justice on September 10th, 2020 to answer to his charges.
Break & Enter
Belleville, ON – On August 8th, 2020 at approximately 5:00 p.m., city police received a call regarding a suspect booting in the front door to a residence on Pine St. The complainant could not tell police if entry was made or if there were any victims in the residence. Officers arrived on scene and called out to any resident/victims in the house and received no replies. Belleville Police K9 Unit attended and cleared the residence for any possible suspects.
No parties were located inside the residence. The home was secured by police and residents were notified.
Disturbed Pedestrian Running into Traffic
Belleville, ON – On August 8th, 2020 at approximately 6:30 p.m., police received numerous calls regarding an adult female who was running into traffic at the intersection of Hwy 62 and Millennium Parkway and smashing her head into vehicle windows. Officers arrived on scene shortly after and contacted the suspect. Officers were able to talk the female party down into a calmer state and transported her to Belleville General Hospital to receive some care for mental health issues. There were no reports of damage of any vehicles nor did the female party sustain any injuries.
Motor Vehicle Collision
Belleville, ON – On August 8th, 2020 at approximately 6:30 p.m., city police attended the intersection of Bell Blvd and North Park St regarding a motor vehicle collision. There were no injuries reported and there was moderate damage to both vehicles.
A 55-year-old Belleville man was charged with Unsafe Lane Move under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act.
Family Disturbance
Belleville, ON – On August 8th, 2020 at approximately 9:00 p.m., police were dispatched to a residence on Casey Rd. in Thurlow Township regarding a family dispute. Upon arrival officers found to adult sisters in a physical altercation. Alcohol was found to be a factor.
A 28-year-old woman was arrested for the disturbance as she remained combative with police and other family members. She was brought to the Belleville Police cells to sleep off her alcohol impairment.
Structure Fire
Belleville, ON – On August 8th, 2020 at approximately 10:00 p.m., city police received a call from Belleville Fire Department to attend a residence on Octavia St regarding a structure fire. Officers arrived on scene and found a detached garage fully engulfed in flames. Officers assisted making sure that all residents of the home were cleared and accounted for. Police closed the road while fire crews dealt with the fire.
There were no reports of any injuries. There is not a clear reason as to how the fire started at this time but it is not considered suspicious. The amount of damage was not released to police.
Motor Vehicle Collisions
Belleville, ON – The Belleville Police responded to seven motor vehicle collisions throughout the city during the past 24 hours. There were no serious injuries reported.
