Belleville Police Service responded to 68 calls for service from the 15th of August 2020 at 5:00 a.m. to the 16th of August 2020 at 5:00 a.m.
Collision Leads to Impaired Charges
Belleville ON- On the 15th of August 2020 at 8:00 p.m. a Belleville Police officer on patrol observed a minor motor vehicle collision on Dundas Street East near Haig Road. There were no injuries reported from either vehicle involved. During the course of the investigation one of the driver’s were determined to be intoxicated by alcohol. Marcus England-Smith of Melrose Ontario was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle with over 80mg of alcohol in his blood. He was released with a September 10th court date.
Disturbance
Belleville ON-On the 16th of August at 3:00 a.m. Belleville Police attended an East end apartment building regarding what was initially reported as a person who had been bear sprayed during an argument inside one of the units. The investigation revealed that the 34-year-old Belleville resident had sprayed himself accidentally. He was transported to the hospital for treatment and no charges were laid.
Property and Vehicle Thefts
Belleville Police have seen a recent surge in reports of thefts from vehicles and properties during the evening and early morning hours. Belleville Police is reminding the public to ensure that they lock vehicles and when possible bring items of value inside overnight.
