The Belleville Police responded to 52 calls for service between 5:00 a.m. on 31 March 2021 and 5:00 a.m. on 01 April 2021 .
Break and Enter
Belleville, ON - 31 March 2021, at 7:30 p.m., police attended an address on Doucette Road with regard to a break and enter in progress at a commercial property. The owners of the property had attended after the alarm had gone off, and they observed a male fleeing the business. Police attended the area and arrested the male. Police were also advised by witnesses that there was potentially another male in the business. Police contained the area while the K9 Unit conducted a search of the property. A second male was quickly located and arrested. As a result, Tony Giroux, a 37-year-old Oshawa resident, was charged with one count of break and enter. He was released on an undertaking with a court date of 29 April 2021.
The second male, a 46-yar-old Oshawa man, was charged with break and enter, fail to comply with judicial release order, and theft under $5000. The individual was held for a bail hearing on 1 April 2021.
Phone Scams Continue
Belleville ON- On 31 March 2021, police received several calls regarding phone scams. One specific scammer had stated he was from the victim’s bank and required a credit card number and also required the victim to purchase gift cards. Police are reminding everyone not to provide personal information over the phone, and that banks and government organizations will not ask you to make purchases of any kind in order to settle an account.
