Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 103 calls for service over a 24-hour period beginning at 5:00 am on May 30, 2023 to 5:00 am on May 31, 2023.

 

Vehicle Struck Cyclist – Fail to Remain

On the 30th of May 2023 at approximately 5:45 p.m. police responded to the area of Station Street and Church Street regarding a grey GMC Sierra which had struck a male cyclist within the intersection and then fled the scene. Theft at Grocery Store

On the 30th of May 2023 at 11:30 a.m. a Loss Prevention Officer at a grocery store on North Front Street recognized a male who had entered the store.  The male was a suspect in previous theft incidents at the same store.  The Loss Prevention Officer continued to observe the suspect who proceeded to conceal items within the shopping cart.  The suspect then paid for a few items but not the items that were concealed.  The male then departed the store.  Police were contacted and began an investigation into the theft and identity of the suspect.  With the assistance of video evidence, the male was identified as Anish Kumar, 36 years old of Belleville.  Kumar was located, arrested and charged with Theft Under $5000. He was release on an Appearance Notice with a court date in June 2023.
