Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 39 calls for service over a 24-hour period beginning at 5:00 am on the 22nd of November, 2022, to 5:00 am on the 23rd of November, 2022.

Distraction Theft

On the 22nd of November, 2022, at 4:06 pm, Belleville Police took a report of a distraction theft which occurred at a North Front Street Belleville, Ontario grocery store. An unsuspecting female was grocery shopping while being closely followed by a male and a female. As the victim was checking out, the male stood by, paying close attention to her as she was paying, and proceeded to follow her in the parking lot towards her vehicle. As the victim got inside her car, the female thief approached her and advised that there was an issue with the victim’s back tire. While the victim was out checking on the issue, the male entered the vehicle, stole the victim’s wallet, and fled. Several thousand dollars were stolen using the victim’s credit and debit cards, and Police are continuing to investigate the matter.

Belleville Police are urging citizens to be aware of similar potential thefts, especially during the busy Holiday season. Please be mindful of your surroundings and lock your vehicles should you have to exit them for any reason.
